Olivier Giroud hopes the Villa manager’s move to Old Trafford is long dead.

The Belgian midfielder has been on the books of manager Louis van Gaal ever since his departure from Everton.

But his desire to get in top form has yet to pay dividends, with the 24-year-old insisting he cannot leave and now even feels more left-sided.

But it all began when a news conference at Villa’s training ground and, when asked if there were any rumours of a sell-on clause in his contract, he replied It does not matter.

It wasn’t a good day for Giroud, who has been playing in all situations for Aston Villa, but it was not a bad day for Van Gaal as he sat on one of his best lines for the first time since joining from Everton.

The winger told reporters I want to stay to get my body back up and I don’t want to be out and about again. But you know what, I am happy. I am happy it’s not so hard.

Van Gaal was told his side wouldn’t have a need to move the striker if he made it happen, but he added I would always have the intention to leave. I don’t see it changing though, that’s for myself.
