That was when Joe said he’s taking more risks because you’re under contract for a year and six months. And I thought, This needs to be serious. But I wanted him to work harder.

D’Amato would also get into interviews for this year’s Super Bowl XLVI against the Detroit Lions. He’s going after the same players that were trying to make his job as the first overall pick and getting them fired.

D’Amato is a coach that has been a guy who knew he would never make a mistake. A guy that has shown a clear sense of leadership at age 28. A guy with a lot of potential. You can see in his first game, when he ran out of time after the first down on a third-down try late in the second quarter, that he’s really in the right place to play in a game.

I’m not going to talk about coaches who had all those success to work with. But to talk about coaches that didn’t have any real impact at that age and are looking really young in their careers doesn’t seem like a positive combination, but it’s something I’m looking to be a part of. It’s not like there’s going to be a day when people won’t come back and talk about Coach D.’Amato or ask me where I’ve gotten my first job, but there’s still my core group I need to work with.
