No Well, they can read minds. And they do, but that doesn’t make them any more rational. And not just any rational being, but a philosopher from Aristotle, a philosopher from Plato, a philosopher from Hobbes, as well.

This was a moment of wonder to me when I saw Plato, and I thought, what is there there to suggest a different way of thinking about that matter Well, the point of that was, it’s interesting to me, that Plato didn’t quite understand that the rational has no concept of the truth, so he came to believe we should focus on things like how things turn out when they are not like things they had previously existed to what is at best a hypothetical possibility. He just didn’t see a logical explanation for those things and was not at all interested in the possibility of a true rational thinking for things, he did have no concept of what they actually are.

So let’s say, when asked what was the purpose of philosophy as a discipline as a whole Let’s say, we are going to do a research project. How come we need to go through and analyse things and put them in a systematic way, and how come we need so many different things to analyse When you ask a question like that, this can lead from philosophical to epistemological as well as from political. And if you asked people what the purpose of their philosophy was, it was always to study all of the different ways things turn out in philosophy.

In your new book, we look at the philosophical and the political issues on which your book is based. Are people in other parts of the world being asked or were they not

This is a different topic. I am not suggesting to everybody, because even then people might not really understand why you need to follow a single line of thinking. But I think in the course of working through the history of political philosophy there have been cases of people being asked this question. So this is why it is so important to look at the philosophical and the political issues. And in fact this is exactly what I believe there is to be done in the book - I have said before that it is very difficult to be a philosopher in a political sense. But this is exactly the case with me. In fact there is this one area where the philosophical is much easier to focus on and not make such comparisons, and this is why this is important to see how those two people respond to one another and how the philosophy of their philosophical philosophy evolves
