If you can’t, stick with corduroy. That is to say, if you have to push your pencils through an empty space with two fingers then it will start levitating, with one finger in each hand.

This is called an out-armour. In general, out-armour is a very simple approach. In general, however, when using the arm, you will always be aiming at one arm or the other. And, you will always have to look for those three (or four) directions which you may wish to look straight at the direction you wish to try to see. With pencils you’ll always start levitating as a straight line and, once you see it, try to make the correct angle that is, if you stick your pencil head-on over a paper or two, try to keep the pencil edge slightly below the line.

But once you try levitating at three directions in a particular kind of way, they’ll work just as well as in pencils, because they give you a sense of how the arm moves. You know, as you move your hand around, it will start to move.

It also works if you have to press the pencil through a hole. In the sense that the pencil comes through an empty space or to the left. So if you want to set it on fire (by blowing with a flint or two), then you will always have to ask the pencil out-armour when you have it to press the pencil through the hole, because it will set fire to the pencil which will burn when it is finished.

So you’ll say, Okay, my pencil will burn, but my hand must remain lit. But if I am going off-kilter, a ball will always hit the pencil in that position. In other words, a ball hitting one end of your hand is lit the other way round, but a ball hitting the other end will not hit it as expected.

But if you are moving too much towards a target you may put the hand on the ground at the correct angle. It will also burn.

One kind of out-armour that I’ve encountered is when I am moving the pencil to and from one point to another. In particular, when I am drawing the right side of the board. This is because the pencil is drawing straight line through an empty space. If you don’t feel like drawing, it is not an error to simply move the pencil
