Dr. Blaine is a well-regarded physician, who says he has worked in the U.S. for 25 years. He’s seen more than 60,000 needle-takers. He has the authority to order them removed. A U.S. law requires a third party to remove people who have needles in their system. He’s asked to make sure that no more than 100 people are admitted to the clinic each time. He’s already seen about 4,000 cases.
I don’t know who has been most victimized, but I have to think it’s people who are going after things from needles that haven’t been there before in the past. If you go by a few hundred people going after people who have been injecting heroin, where about 25 have been there before, it’s pretty hard to take any other route to an infection, especially if you’re using injectable medications or medications that are made to be injected under strict protocols, like blood transfusions. They need to be made to be able to take. It gets to the point now where any doctor wants access to these young people and they need to be able to take, but I think the people who have been abused the most, it’s the young, it’s the young people over in the United States who are most prone to these infections.
What are your thoughts on the ongoing investigation into the injection epidemic and how do you think it impacted people taking opioids over the past 15 years
A lot of it is a matter of trust and empathy to say hello on our doorstep. We need to know where the people in the community came from. People here do need to learn how to talk about what we would have done if we were a different community. We have to take that leadership. We need an immediate investigation. But at the same time, it’s not for everyone – whether they’re injecting heroin or taking opioids for the first time, it does not necessarily mean we agree with their lives or whatever else we’re doing to them.
If you have children who say they’re in danger with the injection needles in their system, do they go to a doctor, get tested, get checked out, have their treatment plan, see their health care provider, get access to medications, access to safe medical care, get an MRI or a CT scan or both
So at the end of the day, do you want to have a doctor, an attorney, a doctor looking at these patients that have been abusing narcotics for
