A man is in critical condition after he was shot in the neck after running from a car on Interstate 94 in San Juan County.
It happened just before 5 a.m. Friday in Highway 94 near the San Juan Creek Parkway and Highway 3 exit.
One family member pulled over a car with two men and the man was shot in the head.
The family is thankful to the law enforcement on scene and all those involved for their help.
They have saved our life, one of the two young family members told 9NEWS.
Witnesses told 9NEWS there was more violence around 4 a.m. and at least one man was in a car with a person of interest. The driver may have been involved in an altercation with several people.
I just want to thank all of the people that have helped us and were willing to have some help out there, said one woman. We were all waiting to get home. It’s unbelievable from all the kindness the law enforcement officer has shown. He put his life on the line.

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking applicants to participate in the Texas AM Athletics Program, a national association of colleges, universities and non-profits that provide funding opportunities and programs for high school, college and collegiate athletes and their families, under special circumstances. The applicant profile is based on research, experience, knowledge, scholarship and leadership knowledge and an understanding of human resources.
The College of Athletics consists of four major athletic programs baseball, softball, basketball, women’s basketball and men’s basketball.
Applications are encouraged for a time, but will be considered until June 1, 2018. If the information from other candidates is not accepted until June 1, 2018, the application deadline will be December 31, 2018. Applications will be placed after that date. To get a place, contact your nearest school, school official or athletic administrator, who is responsible for advising on recruiting and campus programs.
