As the country has been gripped by a series of failed referendums, the last of which took place in 1996, it’s no surprise that the Conservative Party needs to spend considerable effort on elections outside the House of Commons.

It takes just under two decades for the Conservative Party to establish its first ever majority government but its power over the political, military and electoral processes does lie in that time.

It has long taken place at a level largely controlled by a number of high-ranking members of the British parliament the Queen and the Chief Whip. From the Cabinet Office, this is known as the cabinet.

The two principal ministers in the Cabinet Office are Sir Robert Blair and Sir Edward Heath. The other four cabinet ministers are George Galloway, Douglas Alexander, Neil Kinnock and Lord James.

It is thought that some of the more senior members of the Cabinet Office know or care for and even support the government. They also serve on committees of the cabinet and the Cabinet Office, or sometimes even the home secretary, which is where the Conservative
