Sporting Kansas City are playing their first-ever soccer game in KC after a disappointing 2-1 losing streak came to an abrupt end on Sunday.

The match against Sporting Kansas City fell out of expectations when their second win in 15 matches came at home against a 3-1 Kansas City side.

KSC’s 1-2 draw with Sporting Kansas City means Sporting Kansas City will play their first home game of the season against the Rapids on Wednesday.

Head coach Mike Petke said he knows what to expect from KSC and looked forward to getting them out to a quick score.

We’ve just had very tough matches at home, a good group of teams, and we’re having a fantastic weekend with that, said Petke. But overall it’s been pretty great and we’ve been very pleased with our effort.

New York Red Bulls midfielder Michael Harrington, his teammates and manager Rafael Alonso all came out to support KSC at home.

But they didn’t come out as emotional on Sunday as in their opening two matches of the season.

Hansen added I’m really sad to think how the team has been handled so far. There were a lot of good games and a few bad ones and I’m very, very disappointed. At home, we’re not going to give up on it, for sure.

Hansen said they’ve still got a long way to go in terms of getting to the top.
