I think it’s hard to do at this point, but there are tons of people who are doing it. Many of the folks who work are already millionaires and the people who work are really good at it and very successful and are doing good work. It means business for a company like ours which means there’s a huge group of folks who are actually trying to do a lot of good work in all sorts of different contexts.

What do you think of a lot of the efforts people take to raise money for their projects

I think what you do is what you do when you’re working and you want to spread some kind of awareness. My first job at Etsy is actually an open source web publishing platform. It’s something I started out doing when I was learning all about the web and it was pretty cool. It was a big help for me because you’re creating an open source website without the support and money.

As soon as I started working on it, I was just happy to find myself doing stuff I loved and wanted to do.

Can you talk about how important it is to raise money for your projects

I think it all comes down to money. Every dollar you’re giving me has made a difference to those who have supported these endeavors and helped it grow. It means that I’m making money. You’re raising more money if you’re doing the right thing, which means that, I think, it’s nice to see people who share that, I think that is something I care about.

How is it possible if you raise money for an organization like PayPal and get funded, is that a huge amount of help Or is it just a question of giving and feeling the pressure to do a better job and be better at it

It is definitely an awesome feeling to get a response from people who support charities and give you money. You’re doing great work and you’re a great person.

What’s the difference between PayPal and Etsy

When we started, we said we wanted to start making money on Etsy and I thought PayPal was too little, too late. I thought Etsy was too much and we want Etsy to become a business and it’ll get a lot bigger as a website so now we have Etsy. I like what Etsy and PayPal are both really good at.
