In 2013, the Boston Marathon Police Department decided to replace the old-school steel-framed glass that had become standard in most Boston businesses as well as create a new glass to protect the eyes and the lungs.

At the time, glass vendors had used steel framed boards as a base for their glassware, but that wasn’t really the case. Instead, the glass makers used copper-framed plastic that was thinner and stronger. By the time the steel was cut, many of the craftspeople would soon be talking about using stainless steel.

The original glass design was called Glass Folding and it is also called Glass Fibre Welding, as the name implies. In 1873, there were six different styles of glass on sale in America.

The Boston Mint announced that they had introduced the Violet Flower in 1890 and it did not last long. Since the Mint’s glass became more popular and popular, it has become such a popular tradition in Boston that the Boston Mint took to the streets and launched Glass Folding back in 1893.

A glass maker would go out of business if the glass that they used in their glassware is not covered so they use copper paint that will reflect sunlight. The copper that is used inside the glass is a thin layer and when the painted surface starts to break up at the bottom, it would look like water. While copper paint that is in the glass is also very good to look at, the copper has tiny flecks that are often mistaken for blood (you know when the red dye starts to come off), or even a hint of copper in the glass.

The Boston Mint sold Glass Fibre Welding because they didn’t believe in the efficacy of glass-based glass. They chose to use copper as the premium type of plastic.

Another silver-based glass design that is used in this list was the Browning Glass. It was sold as glass because it’s a solarized glass, and it is made of an abrasive substance called silver chloride. The glass is heated and then covered with an emulsifier so that it has a very good concentration of silver. A silver emulsion gives off a silver or silver chloride which gives the glass a shine. It is used in jewelry and jewelry storage and in jewelry applications.
