We don’t have a lot of experience in this field, but at the outset we looked for an instructor, and when we found one, it was just about that time (when I’m working on woodworking), he says.
The next thing he knew, Woodworkers International of America, a national organization of woodworkers, was looking for their own instructor to guide them to the right course of action on woodworking, and they turned to Robert Johnson, author of The Woodworker’s Guide to American College Woodworkers.
According to Johnson
Woodworkers International would have one final piece to make sure they were fully prepared as to how it is to work in the field. I know there were a few people we hadn’t heard from before, but they were all enthusiastic and willing to learn. I worked with them to make sure they were ready. From the start, I was confident in their understanding. We would give them advice and recommendations, as well as provide all the technical skills they needed to get a job on-line and out of college. At 20 an hour or more, he worked them through the information he needed to be prepared for it.
Johnson says that his main message that everything is possible has not changed since joining Woodworkers International.
In terms of my work experience, I have never experienced anything like it before, he says. It’s pretty cool it all is happening naturally. I’m more concerned with what I can learn from what I’ve done than what the people I spoke to wanted me to do.

It’s a very difficult topic to cover here in the U.S. and I hope that this will get the right information out there to make us more comfortable with this topic and give our woodworkers real opportunities.
