A group of Japanese people who have been involved in a protest involving police in Tokyo are facing trial for an assault that left five people inside a bus.

The protesters said at least 20 members of the public had come to their apartment to hold a protest against the Tokyo city government, which imposed a curfew and called on them to leave when they could no longer get around. Police said the protest was a demonstration against what they called fascist policies. Japanese officials later say there have been no injuries reported in the incident.

On Saturday, a Japanese government protest party issued a statement urging the public not to return any vehicles on the busy Tokuda bus route, which runs along the capital’s west side into Tokyo.

The statement said in part, It is now too late to change the current order. We will not permit the people to move buses and will not permit a large number of people to go to our place.

The statement added that all of the protesters will be put up in a safe place within an hour. Police have said they will not take people who have their arms out over their body.

We have a number of police officers on standby as well, but the police need to be kept informed. We will try and take care of them, police spokesman Yosuke Matsuta said. In the meantime, everyone has the right to demand that the police remain completely above the law even if they see violations, he said.

Matsuta said that police had detained 40 people and that 15 had been taken to a hospital. A further 30 people have been put in a waiting area for further treatment, Matsuta said. Many had been evacuated to other localities during Sunday’s demonstrations, Matsuta said.

More than 50 young people gathered in Tokuda on Sunday with pictures of banners and slogans like Tokuda is Tokyo and We refuse to live in a democracy.

Matsuta said about 400 people were present at an event called by the student government, which called for a strike to be imposed by the end of the summer.

Matsuta said police have said they don’t have any further details on the extent of the attack.

We had no involvement from people from the government.

An earlier news conference from the city’s government said the attack took place at around 533 p.m. local time (1133 p.m. PT), and that a large number of protesters
